SAOS 2009
Posted on May 22nd, 2009 by Sophy LabbettIn a few weeks I will be taking part in the Surrey Artists Open Studios scheme once again.
You can find information about the scheme, and the studios taking part by visiting this link to the website:-

This year one of the things that I hope to do during the SAOS event is to work upon my Summer House. I have a good idea of what it is that I want to do with it… Last year while taking part in the scheme I worked on my entry for the DHE competition. I knew roughly what it was that I wanted to do, but did not solidify my ideas until I had begun work on the upper levels… My entry ended up as a ‘Lighthouse Museum’
The building with it’s doors open
The building with it’s doors closed, showing the subterranean levels in brown… Sorry no garden at this point.
The Reserve Collection – the bottom level of the museum, the basement store…
The Ceramics gallery. The shelves are formed from the ribs of the roof, with grain of wheat bulbs hidden beneath. The pots are a polyglot collection from the houses, as well as a number of pieces bought at Art in Clay last August at Hatfield House.
This is a view of the main entry hall, and the museum shop. In the shop I tried to use a compilation of all types of goods as is often found in a small museum shop.
Another view of the entrance hall. The carpet was made by using a paper punch to punch out shapes, which were filled with shapes cut from scraps of other carpets.
More pics of the other levels when I have a moment…
