Welcome to all

Hello,

I want to welcome you all to my new blog. Firstly I would like to thank the Dolls House Emporium for providing this service where I can share my projects with other members who have the same interests.

Before starting I would like to share with you some information about myself and how my hobby for dolls’ houses started. I am from Marsascala, Malta which is a small island right in the center of the Mediterranean Sea. I am 31 years old. I am married and have 2 children, a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old girl. My hobbies are mainly dolls’ houses and crafts.

Since I was a little girl I have always loved dolls’ houses. My very first dolls’ house was given to me by ‘Santa!’ (my parents)  when I was 4 years old which I still have and treasure. It was a Fisher Price dolls’ house and today my children love to play with.  I remember  once when I was a little girl maybe 8 years old,  I was watching a movie where there was a nursery which had this massive dolls’ house in it and from that day I wanted a dolls’ house just like it.

As I grew up and become more independent my dream for a dolls’ house was still there and as I always loved crafts I wanted to build a collectors dolls’ house myself. In 1998 I started building my first dolls’ house. Unfortunately in Malta at that time dolls’ houses was taboo. I couldn’t find anything. So I bought books from abroad and I started to build the dolls’ house and I also built the furniture myself.  I had to learn certain skills and tools of carpentry.

When the dolls’ house and some of the furniture was complete I had a small problem. How was I to do accessories for this dolls’ house? The soft furnishing was no problem like beddings, curtains and carpets as I did them myself but how was I to do china wear or glass wear? By that time surfing the internet was  pretty new for me. I looked up for dolls’ houses and….BINGO! I found out about the Dolls House Emporium. I was thrilled and hooked up for life.

I was amazed with the little tiny thing and so very detailed. I never imagined that these things could be real and so  I never turned back. It took me 6 years to complete as I had also built a basement to fit underneath it. It’s been over 12 years since I have started building dolls’ houses. In these years since taking up this new hobby my life  had many changes. I turned from a teenager and became a lady, wife and mother. I was single, engaged and married. But the love and passion for my dolls’ houses has never changed. I have built other projects in the past years and still have quite a few to start.  I would like to share them with you in the future. I will do my best to post regularly  with more pictures and tips.

The photos are of my first dolls house that I built myself. It is not a kit and the furniture is also done by myself. I will be posting pictures of every room so you can see more details and I can explain what I did. I hope I won’t bore you in the process. If any one wants to ask questions I would be glad to answer them.

Take Care and See You Soon,

Rebecca
